Joy in the Morning

14 Mar

Good Morning,

The scripture reading this morning is an interesting one. Biblical scholars agree that Paul is talking about himself and being caught up in the ecstasy of God’s presence.  Of course, this ‘out of body’ experience is not unique to Paul or to the Christian faith.  The whirling dervishes of the Sufi faith bring on this ecstasy in their dance.   It is a complete release of oneself into the presence of the Divine.

Saturday, The ecstasy of meditation

2 Corinthians 12:1-4

It is necessary to boast; nothing is to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. And I know that such a person—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows— was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat.

I remember when I was young, and a part of a church youth group I would always look forward to our retreats twice a year.  I usually had a wonderful experience on the retreats and began to believe that I would not have a “God experience” when I wasn’t on retreat.  I still remember a friend saying, “Don’t put God in a box.”  The Divine is always with us.

Although we might not go up to the third heaven like Paul, or have one of those great retreat experiences, I think the real challenge is to meet God everyday.  We can feel the blessing and peace of God each morning as we quiet our minds and bodies to be completely before God.

This is the morning to find the joy God has waiting for us.  Breathe.  Sense the spirit enfolding you.  Know that you are precious and loved because you are a child of God.

It is a beautiful thing to walk with the awareness of the Spirit companionship.

Peace,
